Mastrantos is an intimate, modern neighborhood restaurant situated in the heart of Houston Heights since December 2018. A cozy, casual environment is married with elevated international cuisine, including an array of handmade pastas, hearty proteins, vegetable-centric dishes and a made-from scratch pastries (brunch time only), specially the croissants, Cachitos (Venezuelan kolaches), Arepas, and Tequeños (called TexQueños). It is highly encouraged for guests to share dishes to appreciate the breadth and depth of flavors across the menu.
Houston is the most diverse city in the United States and Mastrantos aims to be a restaurant where “Houston is going” in the near future—a continued celebration of global tastes.
“Mastrantos” comes from the mastrantos plant, an aromatic leaf in the mint family that is commonly found in Venezuela’s countryside. It pays homage to owners Mari and Xavier Godoy’s Venezuelan roots. The bull frequently seen in Mastrantos’ branding represents Xavier’s Spanish side.
Mastrantos operates on three pillars:
Global Tastes – The menu is influenced by global flavors, with handmade pastas and dishes made with flavors that range from European to Latin American to Asian, along with Spanish and Venezuelan touches.
Transparency – There are no walls between the culinary team and guests, including the prep area. A glassenclosed Pasta Corner allows people to see pastas and doughs being made.
Balance – Everything is meant to be balanced, from the interior design featuring wood, steel and leather that provide a blend of rural and industrial features; to the menu, with balanced flavors on every plate and balanced portions that encourage family-style sharing.
